== Early life ==

Davidson was born in {{w|Riverside, California}}, outside of [[Los Angeles]], to a {{w|Ghana}}ian father and {{w|English people|English}} mother. His family moved to the [[United Kingdom]] when he was two years old, where Davidson grew up in {{w|Hertfordshire}}, [[England]].

== Career ==

Davidson, who had no acting experience, was discovered by a casting associate at a wrap party for {{w|Derek Jarman}}'s ''{{w|Edward II (film)|Edward II}}''. His {{w|androgynous}} look led to his casting as Dil in {{Teammate| link = The Crying Game | rtitle = | title = The Crying Game | year = | yearact = | type = Film }}.

After filming wrapped, he returned to his fashion career until landing the role of the evil sun god [[Ra]] in ''[[Stargate (movie)|Stargate]]'' opposite [[Kurt Russell]] and [[James Spader]].

Jaye Davidson later retired from acting, stating that he "genuinely hated the fame" he was receiving. He has become more driven towards the fashion business now and has worked on several big photoshoots.
